T-Roll

What a nice little gig. It's easy to say that after the storm has gone! First thing I heard once I put all the instruments down to La Vigna pavement was that oh-they-had-forgotten but there was a jazz trio playing during the same night. Is there any Monthy Python fan watching this blog? When something absurd is already happening you gotta get ready for something even creazier. Nobody's expecting the Spanish Inquisition. We were already struggling with thented ampli and things struggling to fit all the equipments of the two band in the small (quotation finger mode on) stage when this crazy bongo-guy came along with the hudge percussions I've ever got in touch with.

"I had it", I told Dendrix. And I started to plug-off Chuck, Osamushi, the microphone and all the effects. "I'll only sing with the naked voice and my acoustic guitar", as I ended to plug both into the bass-ambli of the jazz trio after their performance.

Mic seemed quite serene. "Mic, in case you didn't noticed it, we took off quite everything from the stage!". You had the point once again, Dendrix!

But - surprise surprise - everything was fine! We had a great show and people really liked the performance! A lot of friends came along to see us, and we all were very excited by the gig, as we tried to pull our best out from that night, letting all our energy and soul flew out from each song!

Mic had a little problem with his drumset, and I started to pay "Do Mean It's A mess", that the band never heard before. Guess Dendrix didn't knew if I was jocking or if I was really intentioned to carry on the song till the end. But I did, and Manuel was so genious to following me with his bass. Bravo Manuel!

They even asked for two encores! We went for "S♥L" and a "The Psychopath At The Club" reprise, while I felt happy to leave my guitar behind to run up and down the stage up to where the mic cable allowed me to go.

At the end of the show we all run to a Brit-Pop party in a nearby venue. The jazz-trio drummer came nearby to express is enthusiasm for the show.

- Your band recalls me a lot another great band... the.... the...

And I was thinking: "Tell it! Tell it! David Bowie? T-Rex? Suede!?"

The Mother? Well... guest it's a lot better than Tokyo Hotel, I suppose!

Kaerenai Futari

It was a real pleausure playing at Cafè Sinatra for Big Indie Nights. Cool and warm, like being guest on Conan O'Brien. Seeing "Sgt. Mic Starr" with his brand new mustache, in a perfect Rivers Cuomo style was a blast! A nice was also the band playing Lacrosse Cover "Go Ego Go" speedin'it up at 200% just for fun. It was also the first time we showed off with "Road to Fairies" and "Total Groupie". People seemed to have ejoyed the show, and it was so sweet metting kiddos after the gig shaking hands and rising thumbs up for the band. It will be a real pleausure bein there againg. This is called "Mask Me Mask Me Mask Me", and it's dedicated to our friend from Brisol.

And this is the rest of the show! It was a strange night, with me walking with a mug full of Coca-Cola and the audience so calm with some sort of japanese thatre attitude, but always steady with a warm applause eager for encores. Thank you so much Diagonal. See you next time.

Cold August

And we've been playing TWO HOURS AND A HALF, bringing people and the attention of the owner of the venue so close that he realized that we double featured each of the dozen tracks of our line up!

I really enjoyed throwing an apple against the drum at the very ending of a far way psychedelic finale of Ronta. It was great :)

(o "si fa presto a fare i grossi con la Gretsch degli altri)

Poi ad un certo punto dalla spiaggia, è arrivata la sposa, accompagnata da Superman. Si erano sentiti a casa loro con il sound di Ronta, e quindi hanno pianto il bis. Che cazzo dovevamo fare? Io li avevo avvisati i Tiny che dovevamo anche pensare ad un fantaipotetico bis, ma niente! I Tiny la sera prima, al posto di ripassare "La Scaletta Infernale", pianificata da Dendrix per portare spingere il fuoco a bruciare la sabbia di Zeznatic, erano troppo presi da rivoluzionare completamente la struttura di "Silver Star", per la cui occasione avevo risfoderato una mia oldissima maglietta della famosa marca produttrice di sneakers.

Insomma: io volevo fare un brano dell'ormai fitto repertorio non proposto dove suonassimo tutti quanti, gli altri abbastanza titubanti e piu' propensi a riproporre uno dei brani gia' suonati. Vada per "Psychopath", che ormai diventa sempre piu' psicopatica ogni volta che viene interpretata. Forse non era insicurezza quella di Manuel e Dendrix, ma avevano nasato la situazione e intuito che ci voleva un brano carico.

Beh. La scena e' stata questa



Di tutto mi sarei aspettato, tranne che degli sconosciuti chiedessero ai Tiny, di spalla ai gentilissimi amici Les Fauves, un bis e si mettessero a ballare come dei matti su un brano mai sentito partorito dalla mia mente malata.

Il contesto di tutta questa storia? I Tiny Tide e i Les Fauves hanno cercato di dare il loro meglio in una godibilissima serata estiva sulla spiaggia, citando Phill Collins, "Against all Odds", e la cortesia smodata di certi addetti ai lavori (immagino che Case attenda ancora il suo sacrificio di sangue mancato, dato che un'occasione migliore di questa per giustificare la cause non si presentera' tanto facilmente). Grazie a Sissy che alla fine ha riportato un minimo di ordine e buon senso, mentre io e Paradise (come chi e'?) stavamo gia' meditando di mettere in piedi una fantaband ambient per l'occasione.


I Les sono stati psicadelissimamente meravigliosi con una precisione e cura di suoni come sempre impressionante, rimediando il meglio dallo scenario che gli si presentava (noi non facciamo testo, siamo la cosa piu' prossima ad un gruppo skiffle nel terzo millennio), coronando il sogno del fonico di montare un microfono panoramico sopra la batteria facendolo calare dal soffitto



Ringraziando Pap per essersi srobito tutte le elucubrazioni di Mic su campionati di calcio di serie c2 sudamericana, balere romagnole e i primi album di Vasco (Pap, ma che cazzo di pazienza hai?) e gli amici del Retro Pop versione estiva per averci dato un po' di spazio, vi lascio a qualche foto e filmatino a cura del Tiny Tide Fan Club.

Modern Indie

Per me e' stata una gran bella giornata. Dalle canzoni che incontravo casualmente grazie ad uno shuffle guidato sicuramente dalla mano misteriosa di qualcuno che qualcosa ci capiva davvero, le persone che ho incontrato, e uno stato psicofisico di grazia, animato con mirabile e dolce armonia da una giornata solare che ha bruciato veramente ogni erba cattiva.

Ne e' successa di ogne. Tralasciando le beghette burocratiche, che meriterebbero veramente di essere raccontate, in quanto la sceneggiatura di un film di Boyle gli farebbero una pippa, con i Clever si sta sempre bene, sara' a causa di reciproco equilibrio fra nostra carenza di maturità e la loro propensione a volere essere meno bambocci. O semplicemente si tratta di apertura mentale e voglia di condividere musica e divertimento in un paese sempre di piu' disinteressato a cose che non siano scontate o a portata di mano. Cosi' e' stato telefonate mentre mi trovavo gia' sul posto a massacrarmi in spiaggia libera al posto di riposarmi, la stazione di Cesenatico, che non avevo mai visto, staffette in macchina carichi come muli tra Cesena, Forli', Cesenatico, Ravenna, tanti amici che sono venuti e che mi hanno veramente meravigliato, a cui voglio un bene dell'anima (mi ha fatto piacere vedere tutti, nesusno escluso, compresi Porlokko, Buccio, in fuga dall'esilio coniugale con lo Scamarcio dei Poveri, CiroAndreFabioneLaBetta, Seek, che e' sempre cosi' gentile da documentare le serate e si e' prestato ad aiutarmi a portare a casa i Clever, e tanta altra gente bella in ordine sparso), cercare un posto in cui lasciare gli strumenti tra Camping e Piadinaie, creare una toppa per la batteria di Mic, ecc ecc ecc (che sarebbe un gran bel nome per un gruppo ma anche no)

Ma le due persone che ci terrei a ringraziare di piu', oltre al Madigans, cosi' gentile da ospitarci, sono Dendrix, senza il cui aiuto ed esperienza saremmo stati veramente nel caccone, ha fatto un palco meraviglioso con l'aiuto degli altri (forse sottraendo un po' di tempo al soundcheck dei Clever, ma non e' un mondo perfetto) e Stefano dei Clever, che a sua volta e' stato l'unico a mantenere in un momento critico un po' di sobrieta', fermezza e sale nella zucca.

Insomma: io mi sono spataccato la faccia, e non vedo l'ora di bissare sabato prossimo :)

Figata suoanre con le Fave ieri. Sono fra i gruppi piu' gentili che abbia mai incontrato. Molto gentile anche lo staff del RetroPop, che mi ha permesso di procedere con la mia apertura acustica senza Tiny.

* Case che tira fuori dal case una bacchetta magica luminosa musicale stile Sailor Minky Momo e mi battezza con un rito iniziatico misterioso, secondo il quale ora la mia vita dovrebbe essere cambiata (anche se Pap sostiene che sia semplicemente un invertitore di tendenze sessuali)

* Il giro all'Officina, dove abbiamo lasciato un messaggio ai Toy Orchestra sulla locandina

* Tutti gli amici! Grazie a Boch, Spacie Ponio, Gli Stones of Venices, le Vigliacches, Valbo's and friends, e il mitico Seek, che mi ha scattato qualche foto. Ho incontrato anche Mic, praticamente il Ringo Starr di Calisese, con cui abbiamo intavolato un'interessante e appassionata discussione con il batterista degli Stones.

I Les Fauves sempre piu' bravi! Case e' sicuramente uno dei miei batteristi preferiti. A parte il gusto e il tocco e l'energia tira sempre fuori delle invenzioni che sono delle genialate (o "che se le facessi io mi prenderebbero per coglione", come ha detto Mic :D), e sono sicuro che è pronto per le piu' grosse... testate XD XD XD (questa la capiamo in pochi)

Esserci meritava solo per lo strepitoso sound check di Pap!

Go Ego Drums

Today we've been on a hill. The Fulls on the hill, I'd say. First "The Ronta EP" session. We started with drums at "Capannone Records". Francesco Minotti was the man, and was in charge of setting up sounds, mics and taking care of the recording. He was great! Of course Joe The Drummer too!

We started in the cold f*cking morning with "Girlfriend". There's not a soul non Sorrivoli (actually the name of the little town on the hill), and playing on that location, with cheap wood covering the walls of the studio, made me think at the band as if we were on the "A Kind Of Magic" documentary with Tiny Tides instead of Queen. Strange, isn't it? I mean... I've got no mustaches!

Porlock knew any name of the nearby towns by having had a dinner on a restourant on each of them. So we had no problem having a break from the sessions after having recorded drums for "Grilfriend" and finding a place for our little lunch.

Tagliatelle al ragù, ravioli alle melanzane... and a lot of red red wine!

Francesco wasn't too much surprised by finding another band having their way back to the studio more than half an hour late. As so it was that the next track was a winy blast.

Stick It

The band who loved beer

Don't know why. Me having practiced "Psychopath" daily two weeks long; a decent microphone; having brought a good amp to the studio; having acoustic Dean guitar on "February"; the skillful talent of Prol, Manuel and Joe, with his good music direction; but everything find his easy sweet way during our last rehearsal gig, even the never practiced "Go Ego Go" went out quite surprising.

Wait... There's another element to consider: the Officina Studio provided us... BEER!
