Dark Songs, Dark Pianos

Just like Tarantino's Mr. Wolf. He came at 02.30 PM. He had pay his parking ticket to leave at 04:30. He finished to learn and record its part at 04:10, gaining some time to let ourselves randomly jam. We had the honour to guest Paul Porlock for the piano recording of the EP version of "The Smiths and the cure".

Do Mean It's A Mess

Oh well. That's another song I wrote in Italian. It was so good that it was the only Italian oriented song I made that made it on a real compilation (by Tafuzzi Records). Wildheart electronic version was so good that I decided to re-write the English version for a project we're secretly cooking for you (tzk tzk tzk).

The Italian song was wrtitten something like 3 years ago (I guess), and was dealing with a Flaming Lips gig, a late night confession in a cript and forbitten love meetings on parking lots.

Am I grown up? Did I get wiser? I don't know my friends... These are the new lyrics

DO MEAN IT'S A MESS
(Words and Music by Mark Zonda)

- hem -

"When Harry met the music
attending sunday school
the little boy was atoms
in some big brain baloon
The fat man was awaiting
the right time to attack
and raise his voice with feeling
on Madame Butterfly
by executing each note
to teach the boy a lie:
if any key turns right
do mean it's a mess

She turned to her old piano
She tought she was alone
The little girl felt happy
the feeling wasn't gone
He came back to the mountain
protected by the snow
They had to pay attention
on spoiling dirty jokes
by trashing any foul note
replace a faulty hoax
in case he'll never know
do mean it's a mess

It wasn't such a big deal
for Gods of small affairs
The funeral was waiting
the epilogue is left
The lawyer man seemed so cold
proclaming she was mad
You asked a glass of water
The coart expected facts
Yet chimes were taking over
from castles in the air
they're playing with no bells
do mean it's a mess"

The Smiths And The Cure (Take#2)

Thanks to Andrea "John" Lucchi for the kind tips

Tiny Tide - The Smiths And The Cure (Take#2)

Osamushi the Micron Keyboard appears. Shall we leave it?

Mascherami

(Stiamo parlando di "Mask Me Mask Me Mask Me").

Hem:

"Beh, tu sapessi come mi sento in questi giorni
la vita è diventata così di successo
e non so veramente come potrei scappare
ogni giorno cerco di non diventare pazzo.

Se sai come uscire di prigione
trasforma queste sbarre in ritagli di carta
e portami via di qui

E' così chiaro,
ogni millimetro di aria è fatto di atmosfera
porta le danze e caccia le stelle
tienimi stretto e prova a

Masherarmi
Dimostrami che ci tieni veramente veramente a me
Mascherami

sorrisi, saluti e coccarde
raggiungi la stella più luminosa e

Mascherami...

Non voglio vivere questa vita
Non un'altra volta

Se tu sapessi come mi sento questi giorni..."

Hey Micdrummer

It's Christmas, and Tiny Tide decided to sell a little bit of their history. So here they are. The one and lonely FIRST MIC STARR BRUSHES on sell. Yesssmen. These humble hand-made brushes are the same who played "A Song for EMI" and "S♥L" during so many cold and dark rehearsals night during the hard winter of our third youth, now ready to sweep some other famous firplaces and drumset.

0.5% of the sell will go to the differently thirsty person care parallel factory of Almost Ronta.

Put your money HERE.

Robbie Pop, a local DJ and guest of the house we were in, made this little bootleg from a 2 hours session in which we played quite EVERYTHING from Franz Ferdinand o Simon & Gartfunkel.

Here you can see Manuel playing another cover with Magic Mushrooms, practicin for a Christmas Jam. Take it away.

It was also the first time we showed off with "Road to Fairies" and "Total Groupie". People seemed to have ejoyed the show, and it was so sweet metting kiddos after the gig shaking hands and rising thumbs up for the band. It will be a real pleausure bein there againg. I Would Say

As probably very fiew of view will know, not only I am working on my first album with Tinies and the new demos for the next, but I'm pushing some schwartz on a second Tiny EP too.
It will be basically a collection of works rearranged in a fine electronical version by my dear friend and "Maya Saakmoto fan" Wildheart, (Stefano Lanzavecchia) who already collaborated with Sahara Simon in the past, now buisy in comosing scores for D&D Fantasy maniacs (what a man!)

That's why I'm re-writing a couple of tracks from the past these days.
That's called "I would say".

The original song was written in magical 1996. Written in Langhirano in a lazy afternoon doin' nothing but listening to Oasis B-Sides and watching tennis, the song was basically a crazy and insane love tune for Anna Kournikova, and nowadays it has turned out to be a work on being aware on the course our life's taking and rising some doubts on which directions we've gotta take.

Here's the lyrics, anyway:

I WOULD SAY

I would say
- Can you tell me it's ok? -
"Can I burn me inside your flames"
I would say
- Still I'm not sure if I may -
"Are we going straight to Hell?"

I don't know if I'm crazy
Is the whole world going insane
Can't they tell me the difference
between pleasre and the pain

I would say
"Will you take me by the hand?"
Will you bring me down in vain?
I would say
"Will you handle me with care?"
I would carry on this way

I would wait
Like a needle in the hay
For your fire to escape
I'd turn red
Just to show you I still care
If I'd hurt you by mistake

I don't know if I'm lazy
Is the whole world running mad?
Can't they tell me the difference
between hide and being chased

I would say...

This is called "Mask Me Mask Me Mask Me", and it's dedicated to our friend from Brisol.

And this is the rest of the show! It was a strange night, with me walking with a mug full of Coca-Cola and the audience so calm with some sort of japanese thatre attitude, but always steady with a warm applause eager for encores. Thank you so much Diagonal. See you next time.

Two New Songs :)

2 new demos, actually.

The first it's called "The Smiths and the Cure"

The song was meant as a response to “The House Of Love” track “The Beatles and The Rolling Stones”, yet suspiciously similar to the 60’s Italian hit “C’era un ragazzo che come me...” by Gianni Morandi. I tried to catch the first feeling I got when I virtually met “The Smiths” For the first time. I was a little kid eating his dinner in front of TV, and all those dark video with insects and claustrofobic imaginery were really insane to me. The middle part of the song was inspired by a news I read one saturnday morning while eating a slice of piza in a bar. They said that people from London were upset by the proposal of introducing double decked coffins in the City’s Cemetery to fill the lack of space for its dead guest. Neurons collided!

The second is "DAT". "DAT" comes from a strange period of my life. I was addicted with the BLogTV thing. I was so happy to get inside the live of some very special people, able to gave me a little smile even when I was in a really bad mood or day. It was the case of a london girl, who used to sing bits of songs while pausing a casual conversation. She was so cute! When she sange that songs my mind got free from any tought, and just few seconds of a tune she used to sing more frequently than others was able to send true happines though my heart. I had ask her about the song. Try to imagine my surprise when I found out that the original song was totally changed on her way to sing it. The real song had really nothing special to get impressed about. I had to try to catch that genious tune in someway, and so it changed for the third time.

Here it is now, the copy of the copy of a nice melody, with the hope it could bring some happiness also to you.

Tiny Tide - "The Smiths and The Cure" (Acoustic Demo)

Tiny Tide - "DAT" (Acoustic Demo)

Here's the Lyrics

"THE SMITHS AND THE CURE"

"It all began with wires and flares, the virus spread
The images flew out of the sets
In every home, in every spot with worms and rats
the lepper stuck inside their brains

Not all the boys, not all the girls were drove insane
There's plenty that just didn't care
They live their lives, they love their wives, they lead them blind
A hope to neutralize the threat

The Smiths and the cure
The Smiths and the cure
The Smiths and the cure
Rings bell on smantic calls
The Smiths and the cure

And nobody wants to die
on a double-decked coffin in the dark of overcrowded London yards.
Nobody wants, they might
bow to find that penny
you drop from the eye
you won't stand to say goodbye

The line is dead do undestand that something changed
Still rumors are alive and cross the land
William, Keats and Joan of Arc are back together
They're waiting for Cleopatra to get Wilde

They pulled their socks, they made it work, it was defeated
The anemics got free from evil funks
The new romantic cult stares at Manchester strange ways
They're back from graves to dance, that's what they get...

The Smiths and the cure..."

"DAT"

"I just had a date and I found her
I just met the girl and I like her

Never been in town
Let's go walk for a ride
Too late for the park
There's a new place to hide
Take me to the bus
Let's go down to the stop
Have a cup of tea
Blend your sugar with me

Gotta go for a while
Hope you don't change your mind to lose your time
with a scumbag like me
Again...

I just had a date and I found her
I just met the girl and I like her

Wanna hold your hand
hope the timing is right
if your' not that girl
can you act for a while
so don't look surprise
we got stars in our eyes
Cought your milky way
Hop the coffe is fine

Gonna stay for a while
Hope you don't realy mind but take your time
Turn the walk in your life
Again

I just had a date and I found her
I just met the girl and I like her

I got her, I got her, I got her, I got in her mind..."

The Rise

Today a little pack was left on my desk. It came from London. It was from Philip. Id est: LeBleu.

The Concept album "The Rise and Fall of LeBleu" is out. You can check the song I helped to write and sing in our space.

Here's the first review:

GIBBERISH

"Le Blue is an occasional concept band driven by Edinburgh based musician, Philip Lockwood Holmes. His second album, released via Google Checkout is now available and is an imaginative and pretty ambitious travelogue through the history of civilisations that have risen and fallen over the eons. ... / The stand out track, Rock in the Empire, in collaboration with Mark Zonda from Tiny Tide verges on Rock and Roll."

You can find the album HERE.

Here's he lyrics:

" Checking all the maps that brought me here
Noise still in my head
Places at my back crossed with an x
Red marks on my path

Engine waiting still and cold at touch
Nations in my hands
Wondering how hard was for a man
To ride from land to land

Ages since I held your marble arms
Far away from here
Once you were the centre of the World
Then you crawled in fear

AND ALL THAT WE HAVE LEFT
IS ROCK IN THE EMPIRE
ALL THOSE THICKY STONES THROUGH YOU AND ME

RUINS EVERYWHERE AND ROCK IN THE EMPIRE
BURNING MILES AND MILES THROUGHT YOU ANE ME

Dancing to the sound of drums and claps
Conquered by a smile
You won’t turn me down, your faith and pride
Won’t shake these walls tonight

Dates are numbers on a paper killing moments cut of labour nailing our future to the past
You rope me in some romantic jokes

Holding on the power till I’m done
To live each spark of life
Free at last from orders, can’t realize
I’m still a slave to vice

Blinking lights are flashing over people pop and fade in new positions bringing balance to the dance
Colliding in your Jin & Coke

AND ALL THAT WE HAVE LEFT
IS ROCK IN THE EMPIRE
ALL THOSE THICKY STONES THROUGH YOU AND ME

RUINS EVERYWHERE AND ROCK IN THE EMPIRE
BURNING MILES AND MILES THROUGHT YOU ANE ME

Shut your silly voice and hide that smile
time are changing fast
Keep apart the triumphs and the best
And give them all the rest

When it’s over dark come closer killing sparks and blowing moments cloaking every witness on the track
Grey sparrows picking off the bread

I was never meant to be afraid
I was never meant to be afraid
I was never meant to be so late
I was never meant to save a pray

Dazzles coming in a thunder drawing circles over temples leaving all that beauty at their back
Black leather in some ionic slams

Killing all the conquests of the past
Killing all the conquests of the past
Lead away the future from the grave
Throw dices on that muddy lap

Coming home with no solutions for my august revolution pulling off the helmet from the head
Was your world ready for this mess"

Hola!

I Tiny reviewed in Spanish! And they get A NINE! :)

The Ronta EP é contagiante e divertido destaque para "Girlfriend" e "Girls From Rinta".
This EP is a LOVE ACT to you". Keep it safe and take care."

BCK

So. I have this song. Its catchiness was totally unespected. I just wondered about that marvellous country duo with a tooth for pop music, wondering from club to club with just an acoustic guitar and their own voices, singing some kind of new country-western scenario to the wide-open dreamy audience in front of the stage. And so it came "BCK", the second song that will be included on the "TenneT" album.

Basically the song is dealing on the duo running away from the City leaving all their problems behind, embracing the new quiet joyfulness of the Country life.

Here's the song

Tiny Tide - BCK

And here's the lyrics:

Let's pretend the King is dead
that Queen is gone and life is fair
Throw the dice and make the choice
I wanna hear it from your voice

SAY!!

Help me Mary
Save me Lord
I'm so empty
Here's so spoiled

So let's go back
let's go back
let's go back
and take me home
back to the country

No depression, B&B
see fruit and joy is my main dish
wanna see me hide and seek
it's miles and miles to play with me

SING!!!

Thank you Mary
Nice twice John
Save my tickets
Hold the horse
Let's go back
Let's go back
Let's go back
Take me home
Back to the Country

Let's go back
Take me home
Back to the country!

When I was mad
good looking young man
I got so bored
I had you there
right in my bed
Yet mummy called
and told me so

"Honey,dear
don't be scared
oh don't be scared
but please come here
and take me home

Back to the country"

For the 1st time today

And here we were (not even a doubt).
It was the night of "Pop International" celebration, with Ladybird, France (I bet they're gonna go far!)

That's what and how we play it

1. A Song for EMI
2. Kitty Jesus
3. S♥L
4. Girls from Ronta

It was the time of the 1st times!

1st time Simona played live with us
1st time Dendrix took an acoustic guitar
1st time I played a Stratocaster
1st time Dendrix played "Kitty Jesus"
1st time Dendrix played "A Song For EMI"
1st time I played a glockenspiel live
1st time we played "S♥L"
1st time we had an intencional hand-clapping
1st time we had an unintentional hand-clapping

It's not such a long way to the top, expecially if Porlock leads the singer of the band like a real Opera Maestro.

Till next time... ta ta :)

Stella d'Argento

Tiny Tide - Silver Star (Demo)
Mark Zonda - Silvia

Traduzione:

"Non hai neppure una chance con me
inseguire il crimine
passare il confine
Io non ho bisogno di nessun'altra
che sprechi il mio tempo
testa tra le nuvole
Non mi importa di nient'altro
Io ho la mia Stella d'Argento

La vita a volte può essere sbagliata
Le giornate possono essere cosi'ingiuste
Le notti non sarebbero lo stesso
Senza la mia Stella d'Argento

Non mi muovo via da li'
Se il tuo cuore è chiuso
e non puoi comprarmi amore
getterò ak vento i soldi e la fama
Risparmiando un po' di posto
vecchie celle e sicurezza

All'inizio si chiamava "3 Minutes Sun".

Piccole banali ingenuità, eppure soluzioni melodiche immediate che arrivano subito all'orecchio e facevano colpo.

Tiny Tide - Scrambled Eggs (Demo)

"E' un giorno fantastico
Proprio un giorno fantastico
E' strano vedere il sole splendere d'inverno
Stavo cuocendo uova strapazzate
Ancora non mi ero accorto
della tua biancheria intima.

Tu mi sorridi
Io accendo la televisione
"Mr. Latte" è in arrivo per me e te
Avanti, scaldalo

Perche suona?
Perche' suona cosi'?
Perche' suona cosi' triste?

Everyone Now Has a Smile (2008, The Story So Far)

Wouldn't have been nice to have a band?

After seeing a gig of XXXX YYYY Mark and Porlock decided that it was time to kick some asses.

The miracle came. After starting the band Tiny Tide based on a guitar/piano soft pop experience, only a week later the band was joined by the talented Manuel on Violin and bass, from the former band "The Magic Mushroom".

"We need a drum", Manuel said.
Zonda picked up the phone.

- Is there the drums teacher?
- Yes
- Do you know any of your students willing to join a band?
- Yes
- Can you pass me some names?
- No
- ...
- I will be your drummer in first place!

And then we had Tiny Mark I,with Joe Pistocchi from Fitness Pump.

It was time for settin up "February","Girls from Ronta","The Psychopath At The Club", "Kitty Jesus", "Needful Things", "Tiny Trains".

We started international collaboration with Sweden, Mexico and UK, via Lacrosse, Belanova and LeBleu, (while Fabio Benni from The Man Avec Le Lunettes joned Mark Zonda on choirs for "TPATC") and played in the main indie stages of Italy such as Lego, Retro Pop, Mattatoio, Officina 49 sharing the stage with The Clever Square, Heike Has The Giggle (with the marvellous acoustic/autistic show at Moquette) and Holmes.

"Girls from Ronta" began to be aired in many Indie Radio Shows in California, UK, Belgium and Italy, meanwhile the Mexican Radio spotted out this strange italian band doing a Belanova Cover.

On December 2007, Porlock gave up. Joe soon followed.

Many live shows were already scheduled, so we came up with a new team.

After having changed many keyboards players and a riot after a show, we were so surprised of our unbelievable performance at Mattatoio that we decided that we didn't needed a keyboard at all to have a great sound.

It was time for Tiny Tide Mark II

Mark and Manuel were joined by Mic Starr on drums and Dendrix on electric guitar.

New songs came up, meanwhile our first EP was spreaded among fan ("The Ronta EP")

It was time for "Silver Star", "Mask Me Mask Me Mask Me", "Valentine Disco Nights", "Road to Fairies", "Ginger Genie", "Total Groupie",while revisting the old glories.

We played than again many gigs with Les Fauves, Amor Fouand Santa Dog (UK) and Ladybird (FR)

After having collected the right demos to work on our first album ("Febrero"), Mark Zonda is now writing new songs for the next one ("TenneT").

Meanwhie we're having fun.

Birds Of Love

The Rise and Fall of... Mark Zonda!!

It's been 2 years since LeBleu asked me to collaborate for his genius project "The Rise and Fall of...". It has been a great honour and pleausure for me, and I hope I'll have the chance to collaborate and have fun with this talented artist and cool guy next time not so far in the future

Preview of the RISE and FALL of . . . leBLEU from Phillip Lockwood-Holmes on Vimeo.

Starting from November the 3th you will have the chance to get your copy of the album from LeBleu site. Here you can check a sneacky quicky yet brilliant preview of the project, that luckely enough could never had the chance to rise and fall into place in a more appropriate period of western culture history.

Ta by now.

Somebody's Got To Tide

So. Let'e tide it up a little bit.
It's been what, two years? One? I just don't know. Some songs are less youngers than others (they could get offended by being called "o.l.d.".

I came up with this bunch of demos and ideas, and I think that now it's time to gather'em up and start to make'em shine like pure diamonds along with the Tinies.

In the meanwhile I'll keep on wirite stuff for the next "TenneT" album, leaving you with memories and a bunch of free demos :)

S♥L

Argh! So many inspirations and so little time to affort what giant wave to take advantage of it! Sit!

Well. Let's start with the list of the things I wasn't able to do
1) Change template to the blog and Myspce
2) Write lyrics for... well... FIVE songs...
3) Uploading "The February Sessions" double LP
4) Going out on saturnday! :D

But at least I've managed to end this little demo. It's called...

Tiny Tide - S♥L

... and it's meant to be the first song for the new album called "TenneT".
Oh yes. I'm writing new material for it meanwhile I'm beginning to work on the emproved versions of the selected material of what will become "Febrero" (the album) with the rest of the band.

I originally planned to take a little pause before going back to write new material, but it happened that the choir of this new songs came to me in a dream, and so I urged (just like for another song playing right now in my head) to record it in a demo before being left by its memory.

In the original dream the song was played by a not so distant radio, and it was played by "The Apples in Stereo". In the end it the demo came out to be quite "Belle&Sebastanesque". Guess it's all because of the drums, but I think that it's a good song anyway.

What's your opinion? Here comes the lyrics :)

"Lucy, you see, is fine
Lucy, loonie, be mine

I could talk but my tongue is tied
I could look but you're out of sight
I should give smooth hands but I'm playing hard

I could smile but you seem so far
I could lie but I won't back down
I shoud speak my mind but I'd spoil the sound

You told me it's over
But how's supposed to be over
How can you claim it's the end
When romance has never began

You swear that it's over
the wrong last leaf of the clover
I should stop hang where you stand
It's YOU that came in my place"

Point Of View Point

Well. Almost a year ago I started to plan an album.
I struggled and bugged friends to find out a good name, but after a couple of songs it was clear that the less inspired "Love&Pop" had to be replaced with the obvious "February". Then it came the band, and after the band the next generation of the band. I planned 14 strong songs for the album, and now the songs are up, in form of demos, and the album is gonna be called "Febrero", as we're gonna work hard to show the brightest side of those songs.

It took more that a year and a half to write that material, and as me and the band we'll work on Februero and a new ep is coming out, I'll start ( I actually already am) to write new stuff for the next album, called "TenneT".

Now. The question is: do you want me to keep the same graphic for blog and myspace for another year or should we go for the "TenneT" style?

For Italian Readers:

No?

TOTAL GROUPIE - GROUPIE TOTALE

"Essere
una groupie totale
o non essere
uno schifo totale

Il vizio
è meno importante
del prezzo
che dovrai pagare

La notte è ancora giovane
nella città di Valencia
E ci mancherà ogni momento delle vostre incursioni sensuali
La strada è la tua casa
Dolce ragazza dorata

E ci mancherà ogni risata in quegli spazi vuoti
La tua stella ora è sola
Dolce ragazza purpurea

Delicato giocattolo a noleggio
Meraviglia e confonde le loro testoline
La nota ragazza
Ma c'è da stupirsene?
Sta vendendo ogni rimasuglio del suo amore

Per essere
Una groupie totale
O non essere
Uno schifo totale

Il wan
l'aspetta fuori
Sei presa
Ancora dalla fuga

Per essere una groupie totale"

ValenTine Disco Night

I came with this first acoustic demo to have some help from a friend of mine with the lyrics (I'm not too sure if the last part is sufficiently good or if it's too naif or disturbing)

It will be the last song of Tiny Tide Debut on the Album.

The song it's a collection of varioust Valentine memories and moments I had, but it starts in a Adriatic Riviera Hotel with the death of Marco Pantani (have a wiki to check)

Here's the song:
Tiny Tide - ValenTine Disco Night (First Acoustic Demo)

... and the "temp lyrics"...

"Oh, his heart gave up
could not get high (this time)
from bathtub ground
to bound the line

(chours)

of a Valentine Disco Night
I was glad
you were mine

On a Valentine Disco Night
We were hot
house on fire

She closed her mouth
to shot my mouth
to kill the brain
and let it out
She locked the door
and turn it down
to make it clear
it was black out

(/chours)

Oh, her hearts were tart
sugar and spice
mingled with time
to prove her right

to love him blind
was out of sight
so she left home
to catch the bus

for a Valantine... (*chours)

[coda]

Here we are we took some time
but in the end it's always dark
I had to knew that you decided
to take it back right from the start
while making sex your final shot
to freeze in time my honest smile
another thing to leave behind
beyond the snow that hide your drive
"

MmMmMm Take#4

My aim was - as you now would have clearly understood - to come with an album dealing with February, the month. It was then quite clear that a track on a pagan celebration very close to Halloween called "Carnevale" had to be in the work.

Well. That's my fourth attempt to work on a decent demo. My work now stops here, and it will continue with the band.

The first demo of the song is a rough acoustic one for a friend of mine, very interested on hearing what shape would have had the song.

The second one is a failed attempt to give some club90-rhythm to the song, but I didn't fit timing quite well. Voice is moreover too rough and out of tune in both (it's two months since I don't practice singing, by the way)

After bugging my singing-teacher (on holiday) to see if it's possible working on this tuning (E-) or to bring it in a lowe one (A-), she told herself sure that this is the right direction to follow after some lessons and tricks.

Here's how a track grows. Check the demos just to see how a song can change before having a proper shape.

Sell-a-Band!! :)
